Social Studies
This lesson comes complete with a lesson plan, large map pieces (magnetize for use on a chalkboard), student map (sample), and assessment page. This is a fun lesson for teaching the compass rose and directions: north, south, east, west, northeast, northwest, southeast, and southwest.
As part of the Social Studies Standards, timelines must be taught. I use the large timeline paper (available at most teaching stores) and have the students do a timeline of the important events in their lives. They are given a paper to take home to work on the important dates & information with their parents. They then use this information to create the big timeline and to write their books, "All About Me."
Use the historical timeline cards to reinforce time/date sequence. Full set of historical timeline cards available with paid subscription. (Sample)
Students work in groups to identify needs & wants. ( Sample ) Needs vs. Wants Game/Activity ( Sample )
